Sara Alexandra Lima Tavares died this Sunday at Luz hospital in Lisbon. The singer-songwriter was 45 years old and had been diagnosed with a brain tumor for over a decade, according to Sic notícias.

Sara Tavares' career began with her victory in the final of the first edition of the SIC program Chuva de Estrelas (1994) with a Whitney Houston song.

In the same year, Sara Tavares won the RTP Song Festival with the song "Chamar a Música", which opened the door to Eurovision - coming eighth.

Two years later, in 1996, Sara Tavares made her debut with the album "Sara Tavares & Shout!".

Albums

Over the next two decades, Sara Tavares released several albums that drew closer to her Cape Verdean roots, most notably "Balancê" (2005), which earned her a platinum record and a nomination as Breakthrough Artist at the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards.

In 2011, she won the Best Female Voice Award at the Cabo Verde Music Awards and the following year she continued her international tour with "Xinti", the title of the album she released in 2009, which won her the Career Award at the Africa Festival in Germany.

In 2018 he was nominated for a Latin Grammy for his fifth album, "Fitxadu" (2017), in which he deepened his relationship with Cape Verdean music, with Manecas Costa, Nancy Vieira, Toty Sa'Med and Kalaf Epalanga among the guests.
