Montepuez Ruby Mining (MRM), which operates in the Namanhumbir administrative post, Montepuez district, in Cabo Delgado, will invest 100 million dollars in a second ruby processing plant in 2025.
The new facility will make it possible to increase the processing of rubies from the current 200 tons per hour to 600 tons, said Milcon Chichume, MRM's public relations director, quoted by the newspaper "Carta de Moçambique".
"This is the Gemfields group's biggest investment in the world, and as a company we want to ensure that by 2025 we will be considered the mine with the most responsible mineral resources in the world," said Chichume, as quoted by the same newspaper.
The source also said that the company's vision is to join the international verification system called IRMA to become one of the most responsible mining operations in the world, taking into account the monitoring of aspects such as the environment and relations with local communities and the government.
