Mondlane challenges SISE to reveal masterminds of Mc Trufafá assassination attempt

Mondlane desafia a SISE revelar mandantes da tentativa de assassinato de Mc Trufafá

Politician Venancio Mondlane has thrown the responsibility for revealing the identity of the masterminds of the assassination attempt on political activist Joel Amaral, also known as "Mc Trufafá", onto the Mozambican secret service (SISE).

"We hope that this will happen, because in this country we have a tradition of very similar cases taking a long time not to be cleared up, but also to be forgotten in a collective amnesia," he said, as quoted by DW.

According to Mondlane, although the Republic Police and other justice institutions have said that steps are being taken to clarify the case, it is essential that, for the sake of national democracy, the secret service intervenes, not least because its budget comes from the treasury.

"We still don't have democracy in Mozambique. Now I live in hiding," says Mc Tufafá

"These cases are central to our democracy. Unfortunately, Mozambique's secret services, which should, in the first instance, be the pillar for the defense of the state, have committed resources that the people themselves have committed to these services precisely to combat voices that are contrary to the government's official position," he noted.

Mondlane challenged the presentation of evidence by those who claim that the assassination attempt was a staging or conspiracy to project the image of his political project.
