Former presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane declared March 18 a national holiday in Maputo today and "called for" a total shutdown of work activities throughout the country.
"Nobody works!" said Mondlane, after explaining that the date is a milestone in the unity of Mozambican youth who, on that day in 2023, came together, from Rovuma to Maputo, to celebrate and pay homage to the young rapper Edson da Luz, better known as Azagaia.
During a "rally" at the Xipamanine market, he also said that vendors should not pay the daily municipal tax. He warned that any policeman who dared to collect the tax could face serious consequences.
He also said that only after April 27 will he think about what to decide about the payment of tolls in the country. But until then, everything should remain suspended.
