Modern makes 110 million doses of vaccine available for Africa

Moderna will make up to 110 million doses of its covid-19 vaccine available to African countries at the lowest price, the pharmaceutical company announced in a statement.

The first 15 million doses are to be delivered by the end of this year, with 35 million in the first quarter of 2022 and up to 60 million in the second quarter "at the lowest price" that modern practices.

According to the company, this is the first step in a long-term partnership with the African Union (AU).

It is known that so far, Africa has been the least vaccinated continent against Covid-19, with only 5% total vaccinated out of a universe of about 1.3 billion people.

According to WHO data Africa records almost 217,000 deaths due to covid-19 and 8.46 million infected with the new coronavirus.

Moderna adds that this agreement is separate from its commitment to the global Covax project to supply up to 500 million doses by 2022.
