Around 220,000 young people of both sexes, born in 2005, will be registered this year. The process was launched last Monday by the Minister of National Defense, Cristóvão Chume, in Malema, Nampula province.
Chume said that the compulsory military census ends on February 28 and called for the involvement of all sectors of society, particularly young Mozambicans.
The Minister of National Defense urged young people to comply with the SMO in order to guarantee sovereignty, territorial integrity and national independence.
On the same occasion, Minister Chume appealed to parents and guardians to ignore job offers for their children in Cabo Delgado province, where terrorist attacks are still taking place. (Letter)
