The President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, guarantees that Mozambique will have a Multipurpose Arena for indoor sports. The government says it has already secured funding of 30 million dollars to make the project a reality.
But the construction of a new infrastructure is the best way forward for the government and there are guarantees from the President of the Republic.
"I feel bad presiding over a country that doesn't have a proper arena. We've made an effort now with the brothers from Nigeria, but the process is going on, because they want a project (...) but to continue following this process, which will happen, because they have some commitments they've already made," said Filipe Nyusi quoted by "O País".
Although funding has already been secured, the project is still on paper. The Secretary of State for Sport explains that there are still many steps to be taken.
"There's all this engineering and architectural work, choosing the space, interacting with our partner in Algeria, which is the Algerian development agency (...) so it's a process that takes time. And we're always on the move, this week we've been interacting with the agency and with the advisor to the head of state, one of the people involved in the process," explained the Secretary of State for Sport, Gilberto Mendes.
The arena could be built on the site of the Zimpeto National Stadium.
