The Mozambican Basketball Federation (FMB) has decided not to apply to organize the next qualifying windows for Afrobasket-2025, if FIBA-Africa does not contribute to the costs..
According to FMB president Paulo Mazivila, quoted by Desafio newspaper, the federation is not willing to take on all the financial burdens, including the payment of fees, as happened in the pre-qualifying match against South Africa, held in Maputo.
Mozambique, which is part of qualifying Group "A" along with South Sudan, Mali and the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been approached by FIBA-Africa to host one of the qualifying stages in November or February.
However, due to the high costs involved, the FMB prefers to compete outside the country, unless there is a change in the financial conditions offered by FIBA-Africa.
In the same publication, Mazivila emphasized that without a contribution from FIBA-Africa towards the costs, the Mozambican federation will choose not to host the qualifiers. Mozambique has not participated in Afrobasket since 2017, when the competition was co-organized by Senegal and Tunisia.
