Mozambique may stop receiving WFP food aid in August

Moçambique pode deixar de receber ajuda alimentar do PAM em Agosto

Northern Mozambique may run out of World Food Program (WFP) food support as early as next August, whose supply disruption has been delayed for two months, but remains imminent due to lack of funds.

According to the agency's source, "WFP risks having to stop life-saving assistance in August 2022 if new funds are not received."

In April, WFP halved the basket it delivered to families who were victims of insurgency in Cabo Delgado province, and the break was to take place this month. The interruption was avoided, but rationing continues, and what people now receive only serves to supply less than 40% of their caloric needs.

"WFP urgently needs $86 million to provide food assistance to 940,000 people in the north over the next six months," that is, until December 2022.
