Mozambique launches three-pronged offensive against terrorist groups in Cabo Delgado

Moçambique lança ofensiva de três polos contra grupos terroristas em Cabo Delgado

The Mozambican defense and security forces have launched an offensive of land, sea and air operations against pockets of terrorist activity in the administrative posts of Mucojo and Quiterajo, in the district of Macomia, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.

In February the terrorists occupied the town of Mucojo, but abandoned it about three days ago. According to Mozambique Information Agency (AIM) moved to the Quissanga district.

The population of Mucojo was advised last month to leave the area and anyone who stays behind could be considered a collaborator of the terrorists. Despite this warning, the civilians have not completely abandoned Mucojo. Some have stayed because of a lack of transport to safer areas and others because they fear there won't be enough food in the accommodation centers.

The Macomia district administrator, Tomás Badae, confirmed on Wednesday that the operations are ongoing. He believes that the warning has fulfilled its objective, since no reports of civilians having died as a result of the Mozambican offensive have reached the town of Macomia.

On the other hand, the Rwandan troops, who have been supporting the Mozambican forces, are said to have adopted "philanthropic actions", especially in the health, education and agriculture sectors.

A group of senior officers from the Rwandan Armed Forces has been distributing school supplies and seeds of some crops in the villages of Natandolas, Chinde and Mbau, in Mocímboa da Praia, as well as in the administrative post of Pundanhar, in the district of Palma.
