More than 7.8 million children were vaccinated against polio in Mozambique during the third round of immunization, a number that exceeds the campaign target by 110%, deputy national health director Benigna Matsinhe revealed.
According to the official, quoted by Diário de Notícias, the operation foresaw the vaccination of 6.8 million children under the age of 5.
The third round started on July 6th, and took place in the ten provinces of Mozambique and in the capital of the country.
The first phase was launched in March after polio was detected in neighboring Malawi, and the second phase took place in April.
It should be noted that it was in May that the first case in Mozambique since 1992 was confirmed, and it happened in Tete, a province bordering Malawi.
