Moçambique estreita cooperação nas áreas de ciência e tecnologia com Governo cubano

Mozambique and Cuba signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Maputo on Thursday (02), in which the two countries undertook to cooperate in the areas of science and technology.

The agreement initialed by the Mozambican Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Daniel Nivagara, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Mozambique, Jorge Luis Tormo, aims to promote, strengthen and develop science, technology and higher education in both countries, based on equality and mutual benefit.

Under the agreement, the parties undertake to boost the training of human capital in key areas of health, with the initial training of doctors and specialization, and the sending of Cuban teachers to public higher education institutions in Mozambique.

Speaking at the event, Nivagara said that "scientific activity has been consolidated as an asset in the production of Cuban wealth, which is why Mozambique is fully interested in capitalizing on the experience of this sister country in strengthening biotechnology and its application to improve the lives of our populations".

The Mozambican leader said he was convinced that "the implementation of this Memorandum of Understanding will have a positive impact on improving the quality of life of our populations".

The Cuban ambassador reaffirmed his country's commitment to continue cooperating with Mozambique in the training of Mozambican human capital, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

"The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is the culmination of efforts and planning aimed at enshrining the highest interests of both parties in strengthening and reinforcing bilateral cooperation, whose talks began in 2021 followed by an exchange of visits," he concluded.
