Mozambique and Zambia are meeting today in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, for the 13th Permanent Joint Session on Defense and Security (PJCSD) to identify new strategies to meet the current challenges in the fight against cross-border crime.
The meeting also aims to improve the instruments of collaboration and assess the level of implementation of the decisions of the 12th session held in 2024 in Maputo.
The Ministerial Meeting will be chaired by Zambia's Defense Minister Ambrose Lwiji Lufuma and co-chaired by Mozambique's Interior Minister Paulo Chachine.
"Notcías", which carries the information, writes that the ministerial meeting is preceded by the two-day meeting of experts that began on Monday, chaired by the Secretary of Defense of the Republic of Zambia, Maambo Haamaundu, and co-chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Defense of Mozambique, Casimiro Mueio.
At the opening of the meeting of experts, the Permanent Secretary of the Zambian Ministry of Defense stressed the importance of a frank and thorough debate on the security challenges affecting both countries, such as irregular migration, smuggling, human and drug trafficking, as well as the growing threat of terrorism.
"Our joint efforts are fundamental to ensuring peace and stability, which are indispensable conditions for the sustainable economic development of our nations," Haamaundu stressed.
Casimiro Mueio, for his part, highlighted the importance of this meeting as an essential mechanism for dealing with contemporary challenges that threaten the national and regional security of both countries.
"It is imperative that in this session we adopt common approaches and a spirit of unity in order to guarantee tangible results that consolidate the security and territorial integrity of our countries," he said, quoted in the publication.
