Mozambique and Tanzania are considering setting up cabotage services in the two countries' ports.
The intention was presented during a conversation yesterday afternoon at the Ponta Vermelha palace between Filipe Nyusi and Hussein Mwinyi, president of the semi-autonomous and insular region of Zanzibar, according to the newspaper "O País".
Although he didn't set any dates for this, Filipe Nyusi said that the matter should be considered immediately and the services could be installed in the ports of Dar es Salaam, "from Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Mtwara, passing through Palma, Mocimboa-da-Praia and Pemba, to Nacala and Quelimane".
According to the publication, the parties also agreed that cabotage services could be extended to Beira and Maputo in the future.
The delegations from the two countries also showed an interest in cooperating in the tourism sector, in economic areas, with regard to trade and investment between the two countries.
After the talks, Filipe Nyusi offered his Zanzibar counterpart a lunch reception, which, for Hussein Mwinyi, means that ties between the two countries did not end after Mozambique achieved independence, but go much further.
"I wish, on behalf of the government and people of Tanzania, to reiterate our unwavering commitment to continue working with you to strengthen our ties for the mutual benefit of both countries and peoples," Mwinyi reiterated. (Source: O País)
