Mozambique and the SAN seek revolutionary solutions for traffic management at the Ressano Garcia border

The border at Ressano Garcia, between Mozambique and the Republic of South Africa (RSA), has been flooded with cargo trucks and private vehicles. The queues stretch for several kilometers and for hours on end. The situation has already prompted the Mozambican consulate in Nelspruit to visit the site.

On the subject, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, said on Wednesday in Maputo that the two countries are already in talks to revolutionize cross-border movement with a modern and more efficient one-stop shop.

One of the actions, according to Magala, quoted by NewsThe aim would be to build a road linking the countries from kilometer seven (where the congestion starts), on the South African side, to the dry port of Ressano Garcia, on the Mozambican side.

He believes that investment in greater mobility should take place on both roads and railroads, including intermediate stops for trucks.

With regard to robberies of motorists, the Minister said that specific work was underway by the authorities in both countries to control the situation.
