The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, and his Namibian counterpart, Ndemupelila Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries on Monday (19) in Maputo, with emphasis on intensifying economic cooperation.
During a bilateral meeting and official talks between the delegations, held as part of the Namibian leader's working visit to Mozambique, Daniel Chapo expressed his satisfaction at the presence of his counterpart in the country, underlining the historical ties that unite the two nations.
"We recognize the brotherly people of Namibia for the excellent relations maintained over 35 years of independence in that country and 50 years of our independence, which will be marked next June," said the Mozambican statesman, stressing that although political and diplomatic ties are excellent, "it is essential to intensify economic diplomacy".
On the occasion, Daniel Chapo announced the organization of a business forum between Mozambique and Namibia, with the aim of promoting meetings between businesspeople from the two countries and stimulating the creation of joint ventures both in the private sector and, eventually, in the public sector.
Priority areas for cooperation have been identified, namely mineral resources, renewable energies, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, development corridors and transport. "Let's get down to work so that we can really develop our two countries, our projects," said the President of the Republic.
For her part, President Nandi-Ndaitwah described the visit as "historic" and an opportunity to present herself as a new leader in the region. "I want to reconnect and strengthen the bonds of cooperation and collaboration between the people of Namibia and the people of Mozambique," she said, recalling the solidarity between the two countries during the liberation struggles.
The Namibian stateswoman called for a new stage in the bilateral relationship, centered on economic independence. "We have to ensure that we can win this economic struggle. And it's clear [...] that the economic war is intensifying," she warned, advocating a more cohesive African collaboration.
