Moçambique e Maláui chegam a acordo para implantar postos de fronteira de paragem única

The governments of Mozambique and Malawi reached an agreement this Tuesday, in the city of Lilongwe, for the implementation of one-stop border posts between the two countries.

The two states are committed to increasing the flow of commercial activities along the specific corridors they share.

The talks between Mozambique's high commissioner in Malawi, Alexandre Manjate, and his Malawian counterpart in Mozambique, Wezi Moyo, are part of the collaboration efforts in the Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project.

According to Radio MozambiqueThe parties made the necessary observations and defined the roadmap to be followed for the implementation of the project.

As part of the six-year project, which began in 2021, Malawi will rehabilitate the 47-kilometer Liwonde-Matawale road to link the Chiponde border crossing in Mangochi to Niassa province.

It also plans to rehabilitate the Blantyre - Zomba road, acquire drones that the Malawi Revenue Authority will use to monitor smuggling and build inland inspection centers in Lilongwe and Blantyre to speed up the clearance of goods.

The project will also implement last-mile infrastructure, such as the construction of market sheds, bridges and the rehabilitation of some stretches of road.

The World Bank is financing the Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project, with 150 million dollars in Malawi and 230 million dollars in Mozambique.
