Mozambique and Brazil are preparing to sign a technical cooperation agreement soon to implement the integrated development cooperation program. To this end, the first Political Consultation Meeting between the two countries took place this Monday (06) in Maputo city.
According to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Mozambican Communities Abroad, Maria de Fátima Manso, the discussions are aimed at strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, especially in the financial area.
"We have the financial area in which we also have a very strong cooperation and also, as you said, regional and multilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic areas of the CPLP, conflict resolution and international peace. We hope to see the visit of His Excellency Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, to Mozambique soon", said Maria de Fátima Manso.
The Secretary for Africa and the Middle East at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Duarte, expressed his country's commitment to supporting Mozambique.
On the occasion, the two leaders expressed their desire to increase cooperation between the two countries, which is still incipient. Carlos Duarte believes that bilateral trade between Mozambique and Brazil is still very small considering its potential.
Duarte says that trade between the two countries still falls short of the 200 million dollars a year mark. "This is a figure that could easily double with new investments," he said.
The Brazilian diplomat mentioned the possibility of the two countries developing an investment facilitation agreement, recognizing that this "will come naturally as relations between Brazil and Mozambique increase in terms of trade and new investments."
"We mentioned the agricultural area, Mozambique is a country that could not only import food from Brazil, but also produce locally, because it's not just a question of us wanting to sell more, we also want to be able to produce here," he said.
