"Mozambique must engage in dialogue with other countries to understand terrorism"

Almost five years after the beginning of the terrorist incursions in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, many questions continue to hang in the air. One of them has to do with the causes of the insurgency.

The Minister of National Defense, Cristóvão Chume, recently addressed the issue and said that despite all the investigations made, there is still no convincing conclusion.

But analyst Mohamed Yassine questions the minister's statements and challenges the executive to organize a regional conference on terrorism to seek experiences from other countries.

"We have a positioning of the minister of defense contrary to the science that we can say the President of the Republic brought. First, the minister of defense ignores that most of the work that has been done regarding the perception of the problem in Cabo Delgado has been done by academia and by the same political analysts that the minister understands have not brought the full solution. Now, I think the government should organize a regional conference on terrorism to seek experiences from other countries," the analyst told VOA.
