“Mozambique continues to have good reserves that give stability to the economy” - Rogério Zandamela

“Moçambique continua com boas reservas que dão estabilidade à economia” – Rogério Zandamela

The governor of the Bank of Mozambique (BdM), Rogério Zandamela, said on Wednesday (05) in the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado, that the country continues to have good cash reserves - which gives security to the economy and helps the metical to maintain its value.

According to the official, who was speaking at the opening of the BdM's annual meeting, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary, despite the difficulties, the country is gradually recovering and prices are more stable. “Mozambique has international reserves at comfortable levels, in other words, there is enough money saved to buy products from abroad and protect the country in the event of a crisis,” Zandamela said.

Speaking at a meeting that brought together various technicians and heads of the central bank to discuss the future of the country's economy, Zandamela stressed that “the national financial system is strong”, as more and more people are using bank accounts and telephone payments, “and the banks are better prepared to protect customers”.

He also pointed out that Mozambique had recently been removed from the “gray list” - an international list of countries suspected of facilitating financial crimes - “which shows that the country is working seriously and transparently”.
