The Mozambican businessman, Álvaro Simão Cossa, kidnapped in Kiev "has been released and is at home," the victim's brother, Boaventura Simão Cossa, told Lusa news agency on Friday (11.03).

"My brother's son [Álvaro Simão Cossa] called us to inform us that my brother has already been released and is at home," Boaventura Simão Cossa said.

The source said that the brother is in good health, but said he had no further details about the circumstances of his abduction and release.

This Thursday, in statements to DW, the Minister Counselor of the Mozambican Embassy in Germany, Julião Langa, had confirmed the kidnapping and the efforts of the Mozambican authorities to locate the businessman who has been living in Ukraine for 30 years.

"This abduction has been confirmed and our Embassy in Moscow is interacting with the family. Diplomatic démarches are being made through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Maputo," he said.

To date, the Government of Mozambique did not know who was responsible for the kidnapping. "It is a war zone, there is an armed conflict going on, and we don't know what the motivation would be. He is a Mozambican citizen who has lived there for more than 30 years and is not part of any conflict," explained Julião Langa.
