The Ministry of Health (MISAU) says there are no reasons for the stoppage of activities announced by the Association of United and Solidarity Health Professionals of Mozambique (APSUSM).
In a press release, the MISAU says that the announcement comes in a context in which the negotiation process with the professional health associations has been led by a Multisectoral Commission set up by the government and which has been resolving the concerns raised.
However, in the event of a stoppage, the MoH guarantees assistance to the population.
"At the moment, there is discussion about a new request from this Association, through correspondence No. 05/APSUSM/2024, dated March 13, for the MISAU to proceed with the monthly deduction of 1% from the salary of all health professionals (with the exception of doctors and dentists), for the payment of dues, to be channeled into the APSUSM bank account.
With regard to the above request, the MISAU's understanding is that any deduction from the employee's salary, outside the provisions of the legislation in force, requires the employee's consent, upon presentation of a notarized statement," reads the press release.
The MISAU therefore believes that there is no reason to call a strike and reiterates that dialogue must continue to be the way to resolve the challenges facing the health sector.
