MINT to introduce department to monitor PRM actions

MINT vai introduzir departamento para monitorar acções da PRM

The Ministry of the Interior (MINT) may in the near future introduce an Internal Affairs Service to monitor the activities of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), in fulfillment of a challenge issued by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo.

The entity to be created, whose deadline for its implementation has not yet been set, is to be overseen by a panel of civil citizens.

"I can't give a deadline [for deployment]. It's a command that the Commander-in-Chief has given, and because it's necessary, and it's part of this aspect of being connected to the people and to society as a whole in order to work," said Paulo Chacine.

For the newly appointed minister, police bodies must be available to welcome the population and help them solve their problems.

"Our institutions should be a place of welcome and problem-solving. People should feel welcome when they come to us. We may not have an immediate solution at that moment, but citizens should recognize good service," he said.
