The main purpose of the meeting, which took place at the Ministry of Finance, was to present the scope of Africa50 and to review the status of Africa50-funded projects in Mozambique and future prospects.
Alain Ebobisse, President of Africa50's Executive Board, presented the stage of the project to expand and modernize the Ressano Garcia Border Post into a One-Stop Border Post (OSBP). The OSBP aims to relieve congestion at the border, improve cross-border trade, strengthen economic integration and streamline logistics and customs operations, promoting greater efficiency and economic connectivity throughout the region;
He also spoke about the four power transmission line projects to be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) modality, for which pre-feasibility studies have already been carried out in partnership with PowerGrid Corporation of India Limited, while Africa50 is extensively involved with EDM. The lines identified are part of EDM's list of priority projects and will help to achieve universal access by 2030.
The Finance Minister showed her full willingness to continue working closely with Africa50 to speed up the completion of the projects in the pipeline.
Founded in 2017 and based in Morocco, Africa50 is an initiative created by African governments and the African Development Bank (AfDB) with the aim of supporting and facilitating the development of bankable infrastructure projects in Africa, mobilizing public and private sector funding to invest in infrastructure.
Mozambique joined Africa50 on February 9, 2024, becoming a shareholder member with full rights.
