The vulnerability of school-age children, adolescents and young people as a result of conflicts, internal displacement and climate change is one of the pressing challenges in the implementation of the national program, "Generation Biz".
The minister of health, Armindo Tiago, said this. Since Thursday, his institution has taken over the coordination of the Geração Biz Program, in which the target group is adolescents and young people aged 10 to 24.
The program, which has already reached just over a million people, was launched in 1999 and is a joint initiative of the Mozambican government and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The fundamental aim of the program is to promote adolescents' sexual and reproductive health, including HIV prevention, and it combines various approaches and activities.
According to a AIMThe Minister of Health, after receiving the portfolios from the Secretary of State for Youth and Employment, Oswaldo Petersburgo, the previous coordinator of this activity, described the past and future actions of this program, in front of dozens of national and foreign actors gathered to take stock and plan the strategies to be adopted for the success of the initiative.
"Despite the successes achieved by its specific initiatives, such as RAPARIGA and SMS BIZ, we still face some challenges in materializing the objectives of this program. We therefore hope that this meeting will discuss solutions for the effective implementation of the planned interventions," he said.
In addition, the Minister of Health said that since its inception in 1999, the program has been adjusting to the challenges of each moment, providing information, knowledge and necessary skills to adolescents and young people, so that they know, master and make proper use of their sexual and reproductive rights, with a special focus on girls.
For his part, on the same occasion, the Secretary of State for Nampula, Jaime Bessa, considered that the transition of the Geração BIZ program to the Ministry of Health opens up fair expectations that it will continue to be strengthened to ensure the continued reduction of maternal mortality, early pregnancy, school dropouts, meeting human rights standards.
