Mozambican miners in South Africa to receive wages in rands and via bank

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the recruitment agency TEBA signed, this Saturday, in the South African city of Johannesburg, a memorandum of understanding.

The agreement aims to make the process of deferred payment of salaries to Mozambican miners, via bank, more flexible and reduce the number of players involved.

The Minister of Labor and Social Security, Margarida Talapa, one of the signatories of the memorandum, said that the first agreement, between the parties, was signed in April 2016.

However, since then only two thousand of the approximately 19 thousand Mozambican miners have received their salaries, via bank.

Margarida Talapa says that from now on all miners will be covered by the memorandum signed this Saturday, which safeguards the legitimate interests of Mozambican workers:

The Mozambican Mines and Farms Workers Association of South Africa welcomes the agreement signed, as it provides security and takes into account the issue of exchange rate fluctuation.

On the basis of the memorandum signed in Johannesburg, all Mozambican miners will now receive their salaries in rands and via bank.
