In all, there are nine hundred and nineteen Mozambicans among the 1,400 illegal miners arrested in the South African province of North West.
They were arrested during a rescue operation by the South African police at the abandoned Stilfontein mine in North West province.
According to Rádio Moçambique, the information was provided by the commander-general of the South African police, Fannie Masemola, who added that the group arrested also included 382 Zimbabweans, 69 Basuthos and 13 South Africans.
Masemola also confirmed that six lifeless bodies of alleged illegal miners had been recovered from the Stilfontein mine.
