Millennium bim is the patron of the photographic exhibition "Americanos", by Mozambican photographer José Cabral. The exhibition opened on February 13 at the Camões Portuguese Cultural Center in Maputo and will be open to the public until April 1.
The photographs were taken on American soil in 1966, over three months, under a grant from the Mid-American Art Alliance, a non-profit arts organization.
The photography itinerary includes stops in New York; Washington; Chicago; New Orleans; San Diego, in California; El Passo, in Texas; Santa Fe, Las Cruces and White Sands, in New Mexico.
José Cabral was born in the city of Lourenço Marques - now Maputo - in 1952, and has been a professional photographer since 1975. He was a teacher at the photographic training center between 1986 and 1990. His work gained notoriety in the first two decades of the 21st century.
The chairman of Millennium bim's executive board, José Reino da Costa, said that "Millennium bim has played an active role in promoting national culture by valuing what is best done in Mozambique. In this sense, we could not fail to support this exhibition by national artist José Cabral. Culture represents all the forms of expression of a people, it reflects their customs, norms, beliefs, traditions and values."
Support for culture is one of the fundamental pillars of Millennium bim's social responsibility initiatives. With this support, the bank is once again reinforcing its commitment to promoting culture and the arts in Mozambique.
