Member of the Defense and Security Forces commits suicide for reasons of passion

Membro das Forças de Defesa e Segurança suicida-se por motivos passionais

A 31-year-old man, a member of the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), took his own life on Wednesday (26) in the Quinta das Laranjeiras neighborhood, in the district of Vanduzi, Manica province.

According to NewsThe suicide took place after an argument with his 23-year-old wife, with whom he had two children. It is suspected that the soldier used rodenticide to commit suicide.

Quoted in the same publication, the wife of the deceased, with whom he lived for six years, said that she had left the house where she lived with her husband about a month ago because of the constant fights.

"My husband and I argued day and night. He would hit me, especially when he was drunk. A month ago, I decided to move back in with my parents. He always asked me to come back, but I refused because I was tired of suffering. On Wednesday, I went back to get my son's birth certificate to go to the hospital and found him lying in bed, and next to him was a bottle with traces of rodenticide," she explained.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother, visibly dismayed, confirmed that her son had been aggressive towards his wife and children recently.

"This is my son's second failed marriage. He always mistreated his wives. I sat down to talk to him several times, but he wouldn't change. Sunday was the last time I had contact with him, when he came to have lunch with me and his brothers at the house," she said.

José Tivane, a neighbor, says that he has intervened in several of the couple's fights. "On Tuesday, during the independence festivities, I talked to him and we exchanged a few glasses of beer. He told me that if his wife didn't come back that night, he would take his own life. And indeed, that happened," he said, calling on other citizens to opt for dialogue to resolve their problems.
