Celeste Mucaunha was murdered two days after she was sworn in as a member of the Quelimane Municipal Assembly by Frelimo.
The Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) are still unaware of the reasons for the murder, but promise to make a statement as soon as they have significant information about the case.
However, according to family reports, the victim left on Thursday (08.02) on her way to work and was kidnapped by unknown people.
The children, worried, contacted the police who found the victim's body charred and lifeless.
Family members also say that Celeste, who was also an employee of the Quelimane Central Hospital, had already suffered death threats and attempted murder.
The victim's children reported that the first time they set fire to Celeste's house while she was asleep, but she woke up and called for help.
As well as being a member of the Municipal Assembly, Celeste Mucaunha was also a member of the District Committee of the Frelimo party in Quelimane.
