Doctors Flee the State for NGOs

Médicos fogem do Estado para ONGs

The doctors assigned to Vilankulo Rural Hospital, in the north of Inhambane province, are abandoning their jobs to join Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), denounced the administrator Edmundo Galiza Matos Júnior.

The doctors "swindle" the State with supposed intentions to continue their studies, whose requests for 11 doctors had approvals. With this, that health unit is without medical specialists who have stopped attending more than 300,000 families in that district, including those in Mabote, Govuro, Inhassoro and Machanga, in Sofala.

"We really need those doctors. We are talking about urologists, ophthalmologists, obstetricians and pediatricians," said, the administrator.

General practitioners serve the patients who seek medical care at that hospital .

The concern has already been forwarded to the central authorities to fill the shortage of medical specialists and support the population.
