The president of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), who is also a presidential candidate in the October 9 general elections, Lutero Simango, denounced the occurrence of acts of political intolerance, revealing the existence of unknown groups that have been destroying the party's district headquarters.
Speaking during a meeting with the grassroots of his party in the city of Nampula, Lutero Simango denounced what he considers to be acts of political intolerance, because "members of our party are being prevented from doing political work here in Nampula province".
"They are already burning our headquarters, our flags, there is political intolerance. This intolerance is happening because those who are doing this are afraid, they know they're going to lose on October 9 and they're already starting to intimidate our people," said Simango, quoted by the RFI.
With five days to go until the start of the electoral campaign, which will run from October 24th to 6th, Lutero Simango issued a warning: "Let it be written and recorded that this time the people will vote for change, whatever they do, the people will change, and it is this will of the Mozambican people that encourages us and gives us more courage and more determination to do politics."
Meanwhile, the other three presidential candidates, Daniel Chapo of Frelimo, Ossufo Momade of Renamo and Venâncio Mondlane, the only independent, are intensifying their pre-election campaign in the northern, central and southern regions of Mozambique to convince the electorate to vote for their manifestos on October 9.
