MDM defends extending the electoral period

MDM defende alargamento do período eleitoral

The electoral period should be extended to allow for the registration of people who could be excluded from the process due to the conditions that have been in place at the polling stations up until now, argues the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM).

The president of the third largest opposition party, Lutero Simango, proposes extending the deadline by a few days or weeks.

On Monday, the political group presented the National Electoral Commission (CNE) with a series of complaints about electoral irregularities at various registration offices across the country.

At the time, the party highlighted the registration of people outside of the places indicated by the CNE and the disparity of posts in the provinces in terms of the density of potential voters.
