The Ministry of Education and Human Development (MINEDH) expects to enroll a total of 815,000 students in grades 7, 11 and 1 of Primary Education for Young People and Adults by January 24 for the 2025 school year.
The MINEDH states that one of the requirements for enrolment is to present a declaration of having passed the previous classes, namely 6th and 10th.
Data from the sector shows that, overall, Nampula and Zambézia have the largest number of places, 98,304 for grade 7 and 36,405 for grade 11; 73,414 and 33,267, respectively, while the country's capital and Niassa province expect to enroll 20,742 (grade 7) and 15,137 (grade 11) and 27,130 (grade 7) and 10,839 pupils (grade 11), respectively.
However, the turnout of students or their guardians is still low in most educational establishments.
At Kurhula Basic School in Maputo City, for example, which teaches up to grade 9, only 42 places out of the 190 available had been filled by the end of last week.
The institution's manager, Paulo Cumbane, recalled that students or their guardians must also carry an identification document, photographs and a declaration of passage when enrolling. For the 11th, however, a fee is payable.
MINEDH spokesman Manuel Simbine said recently that the sector would respect the deadlines set for each activity in the 2025 school calendar.
He assured that the MINEDH will continue to raise awareness among all parents and/or guardians not to leave registration to the last minute. (News)
