Matola, Muhalaze neighborhood, 21h50. Severe tropical storm Filipo passes through, destroying houses and knocking down electricity pylons.
And it all happened very quickly. Many families are homeless, not knowing where to start.
"We were already in bed because of the bad weather. Suddenly we felt the sheets of the roof of the house being swept away by a strong wind," says a desperate resident of the neighborhood. "It only took a few seconds, and that's the damage," he told MZNews as he stared in disbelief at the state of the house.
"That bolt of wind came through at 9.50 p.m. and swept away the roofing sheets of my house, and knocked down part of my wall, all in a split second," says another resident of the same neighborhood.
"All my possessions got wet. I had to ask the neighbor to leave some belongings that I could use," said another worried resident.
The damage caused by severe storm Filipo went beyond the destruction of houses. Electricity pylons have also been destroyed and electrical wires have fallen to the ground, a real danger for residents of the neighborhood and beyond.
"Curiously, we still have power in our houses, but the poles are down. EDM must show up soon to resolve this situation because it's a danger to us and especially to children who have no idea about anything," said another source also affected by the bravery of storm Filipo.
As of the closing of this report, reports from other areas of the same neighborhood indicate that houses are still collapsing due to the impact of the storm.
