A group of 40 teachers from the Daejo Cheile Community School in the Khongolote neighborhood in the city of Matola stopped classes on Thursday, demanding payment of overtime owed by the state for the years 2022 and 2023.
Images of the class boycott have been circulated on social media, and the teachers say that the decision, taken unanimously after a meeting, will prevail until the overtime money is reflected in their accounts.
The teachers say in the videos that they have tried several times to obtain satisfaction from the school management and district services, but without success.
The issue of overtime has already led to the suspension of classes in several schools, but this time it was different. The students of that establishment joined the teachers, expressed their solidarity, recognizing their role in shaping the future, and called for the cases to be resolved.
On Wednesday, teachers at Machava-Sede Secondary School stopped classes for the same reasons.
