Eletricidade de Moçambique (EDM) launched yesterday, in Maputo, the Gender Strategy 2018-2030, which calls for the establishment of a model public service company that optimizes gender equality and business and operational excellence.
The goal is to achieve a 40%o representation of women in its workforce and management structures by 2030.
With this, the public company wants to expand the space for promoting the actions of women workers in the company with regard to mentoring, recruitment, selection, training, and monitoring.
Quoted by "Noticias" Célia Langa, responsible for the Department of Development and Gender Policy in the EDM Human Resources Department, said that the company has 18% in its workforce, a number that she considered low.
To reach the 40% balance target, according to Langa, it is necessary to enter into partnerships with technical training institutes, sign memorandums of understanding with other institutions, provide scholarships for girls, among others.
He added that EDM's business plan calls for the hiring of 200 new workers per year, meaning that there are 100 positions available for women.
"It is important that these women are trained in technical areas, with a focus on electricity. By 2030 we intend to hire two thousand women," she said, quoted by Jornal.
A program is currently underway to recruit the girls for the internship.
"We understand that women can and must contribute in the success of the noble mission of producing, transporting, distributing and marketing good quality and sustainable electric power, to illuminate and enhance the country's industrialization and, consequently, improve the living conditions and well-being of all of us," said Assa Fumo, responsible for the Training and Development Area at the EDM Academy.
