Maputo: More than 60 citizens indicted for crimes of drug production and sale

Maputo: Mais de 60 cidadãos indiciados de crimes de produção e venda de drogas

Just over 60 individuals are on the books of the Republic of Mozambique Police (PRM) in Maputo province, accused of drug production, sale and consumption crimes.

According to RM, these are individuals who were arrested, mostly in flagrante delicto, during the operation launched this year by the PRM to combat the production, sale and consumption of narcotics.

The source said that some of the detainees were workers at the three industrial cannabis farms recently discovered by the National Criminal Investigation Service in Maputo.

Juarce Martins, police spokesperson for the Maputo Provincial Command, said that most of those arrested in connection with this practice were from the city of Matola, which is considered to be one of the centers for the sale of cannabis sativa.

The source warns that in the coming days there may be more arrests in connection with the case of drug production, sale and consumption, given that the operation to combat this evil is continuing throughout the province.

In the process of combating the sale and consumption of drugs, the police in Maputo province have uncovered some methods used by drug sellers in schools, such as the introduction of narcotics in sandwiches or cookies, according to RM.
