On Friday (01), the President of the Republic (PR), Filipe Nyusi, laid the foundation stone for the construction of the world's largest pier bridge, on Inhaca Island, in the city of Maputo.
The infrastructure will be about one kilometer long, will cost around 13 million dollars, and will be the responsibility of the Chinese company CRBC, the same company that built the Maputo-Katembe bridge. The work is expected to be completed within 12 months.
"This infrastructure, in addition to the advantages we have mentioned in the economic sphere, will be the largest quay bridge in the world, as we have been informed. The world's largest box culvert, almost a kilometer long," said the PR.
The island of Inhaca, with just over six thousand inhabitants, is about 35 kilometers from the Mozambican capital.
The bridge should leverage local economic development, especially in the context of promoting national tourism.
