The city of Maputo should have 300 electric vehicles from the MetroBus company for passenger transportation later this year.
It is a process of the company transitioning from using diesel vehicles to electric ones, with greenhouse gas emissions limited to zero.
Today, the company signed a support protocol with the IFC to prepare a viable business plan to expand its transportation services.
"Only electric cars. From now on there will be no more diesel cars on MetroBus. We will only operate with electric cars," said Amade Camal, the company's patron.
He said that the charging system will begin to be installed next month.
"In the first phase, the buses will support MetroBus trains. The second phase is for MetroBus CFM and the third phase is for public transport in general, with new routes, mainly in the north [of Maputo], Bobole, Marracuene, FACIM, Zimpeto, Albazine, Tchumene and Matola Gare," he said.
The act was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Amilton Alissone, who told the press that the project would initially be aimed at Maputo city.
"We hope it will have the most positive impact possible on our country's mobility. These are operations that will always be aligned with the master plan that provides for various modes of transport in the Maputo metropolitan area."
