Maputo and Matola: Remote monitoring of traffic violations starts in November

Maputo e Matola: Monitoria remota de contravenções do Código de Estrada inicia em Novembro

Contraventions of the Highway Code (CE) will now be monitored remotely when the surveillance system goes live this November, according to the Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the National Road Transport Institute (INATRO).

Firstly, the project will be implemented in the cities of Maputo and Matola, according to Nelson Nunes, who told the press about the stage of the project. The initiative, which is intended to be extended to other provinces, is valued at seven million dollars, financed by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOIKA). Other provinces could benefit from the project depending on the number of road accidents. But it also depends on the success of the pilot phase.

INATRO's PCA explained that the phase comprising the construction of road safety infrastructure such as pedestrian bridges, traffic circles, traffic lights, crosswalks and central barriers to prevent irregular crossings is already in its final stages.

The second phase, which is expected to end next November with the installation of cameras, will begin the remote monitoring of EC offenses. (Source: News)
