Maputo: Detido cidadão moçambicano acusado de traficar 16 pessoas para o Vietname

On Tuesday (20), the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) arrested a man who intended to traffic 16 people to Vietnam, with promises of employment, at the behest of a Chinese businessman operating in Sofala province, central Mozambique.

The accused, according to a Tv MiramarHe was arrested at Maputo International Airport after the authorities realized that his documents were irregular.

The case began in 2023, when a Chinese citizen contacted the alleged recruiter with whom he had an employment relationship through a company based in the district of Dondo, Sofala province. The employer then asked the employee to recruit Mozambican citizens who wanted to work abroad, in a company dedicated to paper production.

Without a specific number, the suspected human trafficker, who has now been detained, managed to round up at least 17 people who wanted to fly to Vietnam from Maputo International Airport, where they were thwarted by the authorities.

The spokesman for SERNIC in Maputo city, João Adriano, explains that "the citizens' detention is due to a contradiction between the purpose of the trip and the type of visa presented in their passports".
