Maputo: Authorities incinerate 76 kilograms of soruma in Matutuíne

Maputo: Autoridades incineram 76 quilogramas de soruma em Matutuíne

A few days ago, the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) incinerated around 76 kilograms of "cannabis sativa", aka soruma, in the locality of Missevene, administrative post of Bela Vista, in the district of Matutuíne, Maputo province.

The quantity of narcotics, according to SERNIC spokesman Henrique Mendes, was seized during various operations carried out last year by the corporation and other police forces, as part of the fight against the massive consumption and trafficking of illicit drugs in this part of the country.

"This type of drug was more widely circulated last year because it is low-cost and easy to acquire at the points of sale and production. This situation has led the police to intensify their investigation work in the neighborhoods and to arrest people involved in these criminal acts," he added.

Quoted by the newspaper Notícias, Mendes urged communities to continue to report and provide information about possible "smokehouses" and plantations of psychoactive substances, on both a small and large scale, as a way of facilitating the work of the police authorities.
