The Mayor of Quelimane, in Zambézia province, Manuel de Araújo, was awarded the "Lawrence C. Nussdorf Urban Leadership 2023" prize by the University of Pennsylvania, in the United States. Nussdorf 2023", by the University of Pennsylvania, in the United States of America (USA).

The award recognizes municipal leaders who are leading cities towards development, and the winners were announced by the Penn Institute for Urban Research (Penn IUR), writes Domingo.

This year, the recognition went to four pioneering urban leaders. In addition to Manuel de Araújo, the recipients are Steve Adler, former mayor of Austin; (Lenio) Myrivili, Global Chief Heat Officer UN Habitat & Arsht-Rock, and Chief Heat Officer, Athens, Greece; and Sheela Patel, Founding Director of the Society for the Promotion of Area Resource Centers (SPARC).

The recognition took place at the 18th Annual Urban Leadership Forum, entitled Accelerating Urban Climate Solutions for All.
