The post-election demonstrations are a window of opportunity for Mozambique to embark on a path of institutional, economic and public policy reforms, argues economist Egas Daniel.
"I see opportunities at least for reform. Because we know that what fuels the protests is the need for economic and institutional reforms," he said in an interview with a South African television channel.
According to the economist, if reforms are implemented, Mozambican institutions could become more credible.
"I see the opportunity for the implementation of more inclusive economic policies capable of aggregating the protesting population," he said.
On the other hand, he noted that the government's financial capacity is reduced and it will face challenges in rebuilding infrastructure.
"The government's financial capacity is very tight. I don't see any opportunity to rebuild infrastructure in this financial condition," he said.
