One dead, several injured and 24 people - 16 in the city of Nacala and eight in Nacala - detained by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) is the result of operations to suppress marches in Nampula province on Thursday.
Witnesses told journalists that in addition to tear gas, the PRM used force and fired lethal bullets.
At least three people were admitted to Nampula Central Hospital with PRM gunshot wounds. They are two young adults and a girl. The latter was hit when she was inside her house, where demonstrators were throwing objects at the police.
In Nacala, three people were shot by the police with lethal bullets and one officer was injured in a confrontation with the population. It seems that he was hit by a bullet fired by another police officer.
The PRM in the city of Nampula said that the citizen who was shot by the police in the area of the 4th Police Station was given help, "but unfortunately lost his life on the way to hospital".
