The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) is demanding the immediate and unconditional return of all the weapons stolen from different subunits of the corporation in the cities of Maputo and Matola during raids by alleged protesters.
Orlando Mudumane, spokesman for the PRM General Command, in a press conference, urged the "demonstrators" to refrain from criminal practices, and said that the respective proceedings had already been initiated.
On the ground, the police noted the prevalence of total or partial blocking of roads, coercive collection of money from motorists, theft and looting of other people's property, as well as the involvement of children and teenagers in acts of violence, vandalism and sabotage.
Mudumane also points out that criminals under the influence of alcohol and other psychotropic substances are involved in the disturbances.
Yesterday, at various points in the cities of Maputo and Matola, demonstrators set fire to some police stations, confronted the police and looted AKM-type weapons.
