Demonstrations: 77 health vehicles destroyed across the country

Manifestações: 77 viaturas da Saúde destruídas em todo o país

Seventy-seven health sector vehicles were destroyed or vandalized during the post-election demonstrations across the country, health authorities said.

Fifty-five of these new vehicles were at the Central de Medicamentos e Artigos Médicos in Maputo, where two warehouses were destroyed, according to Rádio Moçambique.

The Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, also said that in the two warehouses destroyed in Maputo, hospital clothes for seventy thousand health workers worth ten million dollars were burned.

"We buy hospital clothes for 70,000 employees of the National Health Service, including shoes, but we had dressing material in that warehouse, we had algalias, we had collection bags, everything we use, syringes, needles, all the so-called material needed to make plaster casts, so-called plaster bandages, the raw material, was also there" he said.

The governor, who was speaking this Friday in Maputo after visiting the Mavalane and José Macamo General Hospitals, said at the time that the destruction of infrastructure, medicines and new vehicles would have a negative impact over the next two years.
