Manica: More than 400 families benefit from mosquito nets

The health authorities will distribute around 1.5 million mosquito nets impregnated with insecticide to more than 400,000 families in 11 districts of Manica province, central Mozambique.

This is a program implemented by the Foundation for Community Development (FDC) and launched this Tuesday in Gondola, one of the beneficiary districts.

In practice, according to the national program director at the FDC, Adelino Xirindza, quoted by AIM, the distribution of mosquito nets will benefit 2.6 million people, corresponding to 413,508 households, most of which are considered vulnerable, and will be done on a "door-to-door" basis over a period of five days.

Xirindza assured that the conditions for this are in place.

At the launch of the campaign, Xirindza said that the activity would involve community leaders, religious leaders and other partners working to combat malaria.

He recalled that malaria is a deadly disease and must be fought with the participation of the entire population in order to eradicate the disease.

"In order to carry out this campaign, we have the support of trained personnel and a total of 430 vehicles will be deployed in all the districts except Chimoio, the provincial capital," he explained.

Xirindza said that work teams had been set up. There are a total of 1,315 registration and distribution teams, 262 local monitors, 65 district monitors, 29 national and provincial supervisors, duly identified to avoid the emergence of opportunists in the communities.

"The families have a mission to help control and maintain security in the communities. We really need to know if the people who come to deliver the mosquito nets are properly identified. The positive outcome of this campaign depends on all of us," he said.
