Manica: floods destroyed nearly 2000 hectares of various crops

Nearly 2,000 hectares of crops were destroyed in Manica province due to flooding caused by heavy rains during Tropical Storm Freddy, an official source said.

According to Ernesto Lopes, who was speaking on Radio Mozambique's Linha Directa program, the most affected districts are Tambara, Guro, Macate, Sussundenga and Mossurize.

"There were three scenarios here. Firstly, there was flooding, secondly, the crops lodged and thirdly, the crops were swept away. As a result, around 8,164 hectares were affected, of which 1,813 were lost," he said during the program.

It should be noted that "the 1,813 hectares that have been completely lost are part of the crops affected by the third scenario, which is dragging," which includes corn and sesame.
